BUKLOD INC. GIVES OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN TO BE INDEPENDENT, EMPOWERED, AND EDUCATED.
Buklod ng Kababaihan was established in 1987 as a drop-in center for women in prostitution outside of the U.S. Naval Base Subic, Olongapo. It was funded through the joint effort of the core group of women from the clubs, Gabriela Commission on Violence Against Women, Mennonite Central Committee and the Division of Family Ministries of the national Council of Churches in the Philippines.
Since the withdrawal of the U.S. Navy in November 1992 and the resulting decline of the entertainment industry, Buklod focuses on empowering women and children who were victims of prostitution and trafficking. Buklod believes that prostitution is a violation of women’s human rights, and therefore a Human Right violation.

"This Yayori award is for everyone, not just for women advocates like me. It is for every woman too, that they may choose to come out of their comfort zones, speak up and act on our collective dreams of a world free from discrimination and violence."
